Subject:awesomeness
Time:12:10 am.
well tonight was pretty amazing. yeah, it was a really good show. but tonight i realized how many are here for me.

props to everyone that made my night so much fun. it was really good to talk to merri and ogden, on top of so many others. i just can't believe that things are so positive. i really look forward to what my future holds now that i'm not an idiot and see that so many people are there for me. and when shit has happened (recently) i've seen all my long time friends (which i shut out in the past) and really old ones come back to me. joe, steve, scott, ogden, kurt, darren, you guys are awesome.

ps-i'm so excited about something that is finally happening tomorrow. i think totally, me included, only about 5 people know about something that (as of tonight) transpired and poses a lot of potential and is making me extremely happy with the idea of it.
(note see last post).

all in all. i haven't been this happy in a long time. thank you to all my friends who made this possible. you guys are awesome.

p.s. jvd, no more jokes about deers and cars. haha

Subject:help?
Time:11:24 am.
hey, i found out last nite that i'm pretty much screwed with the whole amp head thing. (for those that don't know, due to lack of funds from the beginning of the band i had been using a bass head run through my cabinet, it sounded ok). but anyway, i can't do that anymore because now the head is sounding iffy, as deemed by steve's dad---who i was technically borrowing it from.

i was given an ultimatum, i need a consistent head at all practices, shows, etc. by march 8th or i'm pretty much not playing with the band. i've done the whole borrowing heads for shows too, but this has proven sketchy as times conflict and not too mention borrowing a head for practice will be a major pain in the ass, having to go pick it up, drop it off, you get the idea.

well, most of you are probably saying..."just buy one." herein lays the problem. i, as most other people in college i know, am dirt poor. and i cant really work during school and money that is immediately earned up through the summer NEEDS to go to school. but, anyway, enough with my pity party. here is my question to anyone who reads this:

DO ANY OF YOU KNOW SOMEONE SELLING AN AMPLIFIER HEAD THAT IS WILLING TO COMPROMISE ON A PAYMENT PLAN?

thanks for reading.

Subject:a disrotation on something i dont know anything about
Time:11:11 pm.
so i've come to the conclusion (that in my opinion) "jane doe" is possibly one of the most emotional songs ever recorded.

which makes me think, how did the word 'emo' end up getting misconstrued(sp) into a jimmy eat world-saves the day defining genre. fuck that shit...but before i do, lets look at what people consider the early beginnings of 'emo.' some people say 'eh fugazi is real emo.' whatever, fugazi is amazing rock, perhaps what people would refer to as the origin of what we know today as 'indie rock.' then some people lean towards the notion that bands like you and i and heroin are real emo (even screamo has been thrown out there). but then you think about how wanna be nu-metal kids latch onto poison the well (yeah they used to be my favorite band, whatev) and attach the title screamo to it.

i think the idea of having music be define and categorized as 'emotion' is stupid. isn't all music emotion" even cheesy pop could be associated with the emotion of utter bliss by some (aka popping E pills and humping a chair leg while your friend passes out in some 'below 18 yrs. old sunday nite rave')? music and all forms of art connect on an emotional level. the human experience is all emotion.

plain and motherfucking simple.

by the way converge kicks everyones ass.

Subject:news
Time:6:00 pm.
first off, my four favorite cds of the moment are as follows:
1)eulcid-the wind blew all the fires out
2)old man gloom-seminar III
3)isis-oceanic
4)kid kilowatt, whatever random songs i have found by them...no cd (considering its not out yet).

...wow all boston bands, go fig.

anyway, theres an ellipsis/KL show on friday at the fort (?) in wilkes-barre. thats cool. also playing are forgetting tomorrow and final stand.

my production co. with ian (from drexel) and jvd seems to be going well. we are working on 2 shows. we just have to get in direct contact with both venues. once thats done all info will be up at www.pumpkinhead.tk

also, we are going to be starting a 'campaign' if you will through pumpkinhead that any interested volunteers will collectively approach the st. james lutheran church in chalfont to start holding shows again.
if you want any more info, contact me at pumpkinheadproductions@hotmail.com

thats it.

Subject:long overdue update
Time:11:40 pm.
Mood: bitchy.
Music:cave in - dark driving.
so i guess i should update now. but there has been so much that has gone on.

i finally saw my favorite band, cave in. on monday.

i hung out with dillinger, the hope conspiracy, and the icarus line today at the troc. helped ben weinman setup his amp. that was cool. i basically met every big name in the philly scene. it turns out my friend alex, myself, and liam from d.e.p. all had the same photo teacher at uarts. weird. of course seeing bob, ian, and scott made me feel at home.

but i must say, d.e.p. lack total emotion live. i cant believe i used to like them. deadguy should ask for royalties.

anyway, i guess i've been kinda pissed lately cuz since moving drexel i havent been myself. i havent met anyone yet that seems like someone i could be myself to. fuck that, i already have my lifelong friends. it makes me wonder about this 'meeting new people at school' shindig. fuck it, i dont go to parties, i dont want to...frats suck. i dont want other friends...i'm more than happy. i have an amazing girlfriend that loves me. i have evrything i need and i kinda question if drexel is for me...it seems to be populated with dumbasses. dont get me wrong, the guys at the radio station are super cool and obviously (sort of) into what i like. but they arent my friends. maybe i suck at making new friends.

i dunno, maybe i just need to fully adjust. one thing for certain though is, i dont think i can move back to doylestown. philly is awesome, just the school aspect sucks. it doesnt feel like me...yet. maybe it will later.

maybe if i get my shit together, KL will go somewhere and i can make a living out of music.

and i can say 'fuck you all' to every single person at college that sucks.

Subject:more than a week
Time:11:23 am.
Mood: sick.
Music:stephen brodsky - expose yr overdubs.
..since i last updated. but now i have time, due to that i called out of work today. the doctor is pretty sure i have strep throat. rock! isnt that fun. so this totals 4 medications i am on right now. i feel like an old man. i am rapidly falling apart. i bet my immune system is beat to shit cuz my freaking insane schedule this summer. work/hanging out with wendy/practicing with band. thats basically been it minus the sleep factor. now i am forced to sleep due to feeling like shit 24/7. and damn i cant believe its almost august. yikes. this stupid job has stolen my summer and my right to spend money. arg.

anyway though. this weekend was pretty cool, without regard not being able to swallow.

friday-we practiced at dubyks. worked hard and rocked out. came home, went to sleep.

saturday-boredom, until me and wendy hung out. it was really a good time. except when we looked for gravity hill and hillbillys were running amok. she bought me a copy of '12 monkeys'. which is possibly my favorite movie of alltime. rocksolid.

sunday-was CONVERGE. damn, here is my review of the bands.
IRVING ROSE-sucked. generic-poison the well-style.
FOLLY-horrible. hardcore ska. ate shit.
SKYCAMEFALLING. again terrible. sounded like hoobastank
meets tons of breakdowns.
CURLUPANDDIE-shitty grind/metal. piece of shit music!

!!!!!!!!!CONVERGE!!!!!!!!
i dont think i need to go into any detail. they always rock. they have to be tied in my mind for the most amazing live performance i have seen thus far. (even though i bet cave in will dethrone one of them). i was right up against the stage with ogden, joe, steve, scott, and emran. man it was freaky having jacob bannon kneel down 2 inches away from my face and scream all nite. oh yeah, and step on my hand, drool on me, and stand so his cock was right in my face. great singing along though. it was definitely like...'holy shit this is fucking incredible.' and now i have been onstage with 2 awesome bands (dillinger 12/21/01) and now the almighty converge during 'the saddest day.'

goddamn they are so good.

Subject:again, awesome.
Time:4:44 pm.
Mood: cheerful.
Music:cave in - brain candle.
i was pretty stoked today. i ran into my 6th grade teacher while working at the school. i didnt see her from down the hall, but i heard her say 'is that mark diehl!?!?' i was like 'whoa!' i was completely surprised she even recognized me. we talked for awhile. i so impressed that she knew it was me after 6 years. that and the conversation showed how much of a great person she is.

its kinda funny that she was the one who knew me, after i had left a note her room that included saying 'you probably wont recognize me.' needless to say, she went to one of my old friends graduation party (which i didnt attend) and looked for me. damn, i'm really flattered. this goes to show and reminds me why she is my favorite teacher and perons of all time.

i am glad that i wrote that note to her, basically saying that out of 13 years in this school district she was the one teacher made me who i am today. i cant thank her enough. she has been one of the most influential persons in my life.

it was just a great experience seeing and talking to her. she read my note dug it.

i'm just elated and touched about this. and its cool that i'll definitely see her again before i'm done work there.

i dont what else to say, except that she is one of my true role models. definitely for the rest of my life she will hold a spot in my conscienceness.

scott joined and we already better. man i am so glad pete is out of the band. it seems that good fortune has shone upon us after his forced departure.
ha, not to mention somehow i completely lucked out and got a marshall cabinet for $106 dollars. THANK YOU JOE. it was originally $225 (used) what a fuckin steal. but then the guy said i could take it home right then for $100. rock. so joe helped me out and now i have this beat up, yeah great sounding cab. now i just have to buy a decent head. right now i am using an older peavey bass head. which is kinda weird. whatever. we arent normal anyway.

we probably gonna practice alot this week to get things tight for saturday when we go to chip;s place to record our first demo.

demos are free. cuz we are recording for free.

Subject:.philadelphia.
Time:12:50 am.
Mood: indifferent.
Music:the icarus line - enemies in high places.
so today was the goldman's band opening up for baha men extravanagza.

so first we hit south st and hit up the relapse store. man, i guess metal just doesnt do it for me anymore. too much metal in that place. eh. just altogether not my thing like it once was. and then, we stopped at repo records where i bought one of stephen brodsky's solo albums. (excellent-brodsky=the man).

next we surveyed the damage of love park via renovations. it sucks, there is still place to skate, but the cops surround the goddamn place. but most ledges are blocked by planters now.
so we killed time there and i stood in the background of tourists' photos of the love sculpture.

...then there was the show. surprisingly the west choir was there. weird. i saw marissa there, she saw me too.
dude and i swear if another person tries to hand me another american flag they are getting smacked. a guy asked me if i was patriotic. fuck him. i'm not. so yeah.

anyway. some horrid motown group from the 50s went on before goldmans band. but amusingly this persumably old homeless and definitely schizo guy walked in front of this semi-amplitheater of a few thousand people pointing in the sjy and shaking his hips. so our group starts laughing hysterically.
we was wearing a mark jackson pacers jersey. haha. but, he disappeared after that.
then about 20 minutes later he appears on the otherside of the stage dancing still. so i get up and start clapping behind his back (about 6 inches away from him). so then i walk back down and sit. we are all laughing by this point. and hes just staring at me and flipping me off...so we laugh harder. so next this dude grabs a security guard...and then a cop...haha but the cop basically told him to get the hell out of there. i was scared for a second i was going to have the law reprimand me for some paranoid reason of mine.

thats it for now.
